“My lived experience laid the foundation for my interest in pursuing a place in this field. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness within a year or two following recovery from an eating disorder that had spanned the better part of a decade.”
About:
At Freedom with Nutrition, Tiffany Pecoraro, MS, RD, EDOC provides medical nutrition therapy for eating disorders co-occurring with chronic illness and complex conditions and experiences of neurodivergence. Tiffany is honored to provide holistic, evidence-based (and at times evidenced informed-when the data is missing) approach to nutrition therapy that supports realistic recovery that both practical and serves the individuals unique medical story, not the ableist “sparkling” eating disorder recovery story that often is singularly portrayed in recovery spaces.
I specialize in working with these populations:
Eating disorders co-occurring with endometriosis
Diagnosed or suspected but undiagnosed MCAS, OCD, ADHD, autoimmune disease, hEDS, food allergies and intolerances
My expertise comes from:
“I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2014, completed my dietetic internship and Certificate of Graduate Study in Eating Disorders at Northern Illinois University in 2016, and earned my Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2017. I have been a board-certified Registered Dietitian since January 2017. Since January 2017, I have supported clients whose eating-disorder recovery is complicated by medical conditions that affect appetite, digestion, food tolerance, energy, pain, mobility, and the ability to follow more standard treatment recommendations.
Before specializing in eating disorders, my clinical rotations included oncology, diabetes, kidney care, public and community nutrition, and prior to dietetics, I worked as a behavioral tech serving individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities. I have pursued education on GI disorders in the context of eating-disorders, MCAS and eating disorders, endometriosis and eating disorders and my approach to chronic illness-informed eating-disorder care is shaped by this foundation, direct client work, continuing education, professional consultation, collaboration with physicians and therapists, and ongoing review of medical and academic literature.
I have a particular interest and focus on the overlap between mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), eating disorders, and nutritional instability. MCAS and related conditions can involve changing food reactions, nausea, abdominal pain, reflux, bowel changes, early fullness, dizziness, fatigue, brain fog, flushing, itching, appetite disruption, and understandable fear around eating.”
