6 Ways To Help Your Partner Better Understand Your Chronic Illness.

10 Most Common Obstacles To Effective Pain Management

Hi! I’m Destiny,

  • My clients usually find me when they’re at a loss for words. Years of feeling misunderstood by their loves ones, doctors, employers, and the world have them with a sense of “why do I even try?”

As a chronic illness therapist with lived experience, I know firsthand what it’s like to lose and find yourself over and over again. Nothing lights me up more than watching clients go from scared and in pain to feeling confident in their ability to ask for help, get their needs met, and form deeper and healthier relationships despite living with chronic medical conditions.

  • Yes, and here’s why. Chronic medical conditions, such as Arthritis, Diabetes, Nerve and Pain syndromes, Lyme disease, gastrointestinal issues like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn’s Disease, and so many more diagnoses wreak havoc on our nervous systems.

Nervous system dysregulation and stress are a normal part of being human, but chronic dysregulation and stress has been repeatedly linked to an array of chronic diseases.

It’s NOT that chronic disease is caused by stress, it’s just that chronic disease symptoms are made worse by it.

That’s why I work from a mind-body approach called Somatic Experiencing, because trauma, negative life experiences, and positive experiences are all stored in the body. We can access them anytime we want - if we have the right tools in our hands.

I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques in our work together

The goal isn’t to get rod of all stress - that’s impossible. But learning how to navigate it in a way that brings us closer to our loved ones is the main objective of mental health therapy for chronic pain and illness.
