“My own health journey brought me to this work; having to learn at an all-too-young age to trust my own experience in the face of dismissing experts, self-doubts, and loved ones who wanted to wish the difficulties away. ”
About:
Lauren Traitz is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) providing telehealth therapy throughout California. She specializes in supporting women and queer adults impacted by chronic pain, illness, or medical trauma to honor their energetic needs, make space for grief, sustainably self-advocate, and ground in what matters most.
Therapy with Lauren is more than just talk; it is real accompaniment. Her approach is gentle and explorative yet direct and, at times, playful. Rooted in SE and parts work– and weaving in ecotherapy and depth approaches when suited– Lauren tailors therapy to what authentically fits, helping you reconnect with your own wisdom and resilience. You deserve a life that's about more than surviving, and you don't need another provider who doesn't believe you. As a person navigating her own medical and embodied challenges, Lauren is passionate about psychological care that supports agency and melts shame.
I specialize in working with these populations:
Pelvic pain
Endometriosis and "the dynias" (vestibulodynia, vulvodynia, etc)
POTS
TBIs with lasting effects
Tick-borne illnesses (lyme, alpha gal)
ADHD in relation to all of the above
My expertise comes from:
“As I'm sure is true for many of us, my interest in treating chronic illness is rooted in my lived experience. I have struggled with digestive and hormonal symptoms since adolescence, undergoing numerous rounds of testing, labeling/mislabeling, and treatments throughout my life and to this day. I have an IBS diagnosis, vulvodynia (currently in remission) and preliminary endometriosis (doctors will not fully sign off on this unless I get surgery). I also recently got diagnosed with alpha gal syndrome (associated with wide-ranging histamine-driven symptoms I'm still learning how to identify). My relationship with the medical system shifted most dramatically when I was 26 when, after 6 months of medical gaslighting and learning how to assert myself with providers, a spinal tumor was discovered and surgically removed. Luckily, it was noncancerous, but the experience was a sort of "loss of innocence"– both in losing trust in medical institutions and in grappling with mortality as a young woman.
As a clinician and human being, I attune to existential questions like "How can I be in this body or this world, even when it hurts, even when it doesn't feel as it 'should'?" and "How can I align the life I'm building with genuine embodied needs and greater calling?". ”
