When Your Body Feels Unsafe: Staying Present & Advocating for Yourself During Medical Appointments

When Your Body Feels Unsafe

Staying Present & Advocating for Yourself During Medical Appointments

Date: Saturday, October 24, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM EST
Format: Live Webinar on Zoom + Replay Access

This Workshop Is For You If:

  • You've ever left an appointment remembering everything you meant to say, once you left the building

  • You find yourself agreeing automatically, minimizing your symptoms, or saying "I'm fine" even when you're not, just to keep things easy for everyone else.

  • You want practical, in-the-moment tools for staying present and connected to yourself, not just information to read about later.

  • You're navigating chronic illness, medical trauma, or appointments that bring up more than you expect and you're ready for a different kind of support.

About This Workshop

Join Amber Amick, LPC, NCC, CPCS and Destiny Davis, LPC, CRC for a conversation about something so many of us recognize: you knew exactly what you wanted to say at your medical appointment... until you got into the room. Then your mind went blank, you said "okay" even though you weren't okay, and you remembered everything you meant to ask the moment you got back to the parking lot.

You think “I did it again, I just didn’t prepare hard enough.”

But it was never about how hard you could prepare. Shutting down in the doctors office is an incredibly adaptive response to a space that’s historically been unsafe for us.

Medical appointments ask so much of us (remembering, explaining, deciding, advocating, coping, often all at once), and Amber’s walking us through a simple framework that you can actually use next time you feel yourself starting to spiral or shut down in the doctor’s office.

Location: Zoom Webinar
Format: Presentation and discussion (plan for 75 minutes)

What You'll Learn:

  • Why your body responds way before your words do

  • How to recognize your own activation patterns. (whether that's more energy and urgency, shutdown and blank mind, or appeasing and going quiet.)

  • Her simple, repeatable way to check in with yourself, stay connected in the moment, and communicate what you need.

  • Discreet grounding tools and micro-movements you can use during an appointment without anyone noticing.

  • Simple phrases for when words are hard to find, how to name a flare day, ask to reschedule, set a boundary, or ask for support in the moment.

  • How to build a before/during/after plan so you walk into your next appointment feeling more prepared, not just hopeful.
