“I believe that our feelings and overall well-being can influence our physical symptoms and that our physical symptoms can influence our feelings and overall well-being, but this is a very nuanced conversation and unique for each individual and illness. ”
About:
Jackie is a licensed mental health therapist who has been providing counseling services to people living with medical diagnoses for over 20 years. Jackie specializes in working with individuals affected by cancer, life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses, medical trauma, caregiver stress, and burnout. She is passionate about supporting clients as they navigate the emotional impact of serious health conditions, medical treatments, life transitions, and the uncertainties that often accompany illness.
Drawing from evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches, she helps clients process difficult emotions, cope with medical anxiety, heal from traumatic healthcare experiences, and cultivate resilience in the face of ongoing challenges. Her goal is to create a compassionate, affirming space where individuals can rediscover their strengths, reclaim a sense of agency, and live meaningfully through every stage of their journey.
I specialize in working with these populations:
Cancer
Chronic Illnesses
Disabilities
Life-threatening or Life-limiting Conditions
My expertise comes from:
“My specialty in chronic illness grew from both personal and professional experience. After losing a close family member to cancer, I felt called to support others facing serious illness and went on to work with children with cancer and their families. Witnessing the emotional, relational, and practical challenges that accompany life-threatening illness deepened my commitment to this work.
I also live with a chronic health condition, which gives me firsthand insight into the realities of navigating the healthcare system, advocating for yourself, managing uncertainty, and coping with the daily frustrations and lifestyle changes that chronic illness can bring.
My path to becoming a therapist was further shaped by my own experience in therapy while working in pediatric oncology. As I processed burnout, grief, and depression, I experienced the life-changing impact of therapy firsthand and knew I wanted to help others find that same healing and growth.
Professionally, I earned a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, a PhD in Medical Family Therapy, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. Today, I combine specialized training in chronic illness, cancer, medical trauma, grief, end-of-life concerns, and burnout with personal understanding to help clients navigate some of life's most difficult challenges with greater resilience, self-compassion, and hope.”
