Chronic Illness: How to Reach Out Without Feeling Like a Burden

  • ACTive Care Counseling & Coaching 1249 Hartford Ave SW Atlanta United States (map)

A live workshop to help educate, inspire, and connect with others who also live with chronic pain and illness.

How do you keep up with friends while chronically ill? What if I always need to cancel? What if they get tired of me?

I’ll be helping you answer questions just like these in my next live workshop, April 20th, 2024 from 10-11:30am EST

This is not your typical advice workshop - it's aimed at helping you understand YOUR needs first and then how to communicate those needs effectively. A live workshop to help educate, inspire, and connect with others who also live with chronic pain and illness.

Workshop Goals:

  • Understanding the Barrier: Help attendees identify why they feel like a burden – common reasons include fear of rejection, feeling weak, not wanting to worry loved ones, and experiences of past dismissal.

  • Emphasizing Shared Humanity: Remind attendees that everyone needs help sometimes, and it's a healthy part of human connection.

  • Practical Strategies: Teach attendees how to make specific, manageable requests and give them "scripts" to use.

  • Self-Compassion: Foster a sense of worthiness and self-advocacy among attendees. Challenge the idea that needing help means being a burden.

Other parts of the discussion include:

  • How to talk to your friends about your illness in a way that fosters understanding.

  • Creative ways to "hang out" that fit your energy levels and limitations.

  • Tips for building lasting connections when dealing with an unpredictable health condition.

It comes with a workbook and the replay! Sign up here.
